5 Min goal hack
"Whatever we plant with our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality."
-Earl Nightingale
REPETITION
In the previous newsletter, I shared the pillars of a goal. The next step in realizing a goal is where many (most) people get left behind: believing they can actually have their heart's desires. How do you trick your brain, with its staunch, contrasting beliefs buried in your subconscious, into entertaining and allowing these goals and big visions?
Our beliefs or paradigms are changed in two ways:
1) emotional impact
2) spaced repetition.
We canβt change a paradigm with self-will alone. If we could, weβd all be living the life of our dreams.
GOAL HACK
One practice that encourages receptivity and alignment of your goals between your head and heart is to record yourself stating an affirmation (examples below) connected to your goal and then listen to it on repeat for 5 minutes first thing when you wake up and 5 minutes at night right as you begin to get sleepy. If you nap, try it then too! These particular moments in the day are when your brain is in a theta state or hypnosis and most receptive to suggestions and affirmations.
Listening to your own voice saying these affirming words in service of your self-image and goals will have a much bigger impact than listening to a stranger say it. Your voice is essential- you listen to yourself all day long.
Affirmation Examples:
I am so happy and grateful now that I am thriving as a business owner bringing in $x per month.
I am a confident and effective leader.
My body is healthy, balanced and strong.
I am worthy. I am enough.
(Notice that all of these statements are positive and in the present tense.)
Habits are formed through repetition. Look at toddlers and how much they LOVE repetition. This is how we learn. It seems obvious that children learn this way but we forget that it's how we always learn regardless of age. There might be a belief you have going on that says you can't have, experience or be a particular thing but that was a belief that was given to you. It's not innate. It's not who you are. The daily focus and repetition of what you DO want (to be, do, have, experience) will subtly gain momentum and be louder and stronger than that old, defeating belief. Like a glass of water filled with dirt, don't bother removing the sediment, just focus on pouring in clean water. The dirt will eventually float away.
Happy Repeating!
P.S. I use this voice recording app for my affirmations as it has a repeat button.
How does it feel hearing yourself say these affirmations on repeat? What do you notice after a week of this repetition practice?
This is just a sample of what you will dig into while working with me as your coach. Are you ready to get crystal clear on your big, soaring goals and commit to them with the best tools and support you need to succeed? Remember, you being you with your unique desires is exactly what the world needs. Your goals are sacred.
